Originally a small Red brick chapel situated in gasworks lane later renamed station road. It was then called the “Baptist Memorial Chapel”.
In 1911 the baptist church moved to Shenley Road, Borehamwood the “Gem Cinema” reported to have been the smallest cinema in the world opened admission was 1d 2d & 5d and the projector was illuminated by limelight. Showing a varied programmes of Two peelers “short comics” and on special days an “Interest Feature” later the building was used by the council for its rent and rates office.
In later years being turned into the public conveniences and in 1995 some 104
years later keeping some of the original features it is now a Florist shop.
